The 24th Annual Bolton
Sunset Canoe and Kayak Race went off smoothly on another beautiful August
evening, 6:30PM on the 15th. Thirty-four (34) paddlers from Massachusetts,
New
Hampshire and thirteen(13) Connecticut towns competed on two courses
on the Bolton Lakes.
Vickie and Del Cummings ,of
Meriden, had the fastest canoe time (55:42): Kathy Manizza,of Bolton, the
fastest kayak time(54:41) and Kim Overbeck,of New Britain, recieved the
Kenyon Kup( named for the founder of the race in 1984-Ted Kenyon Sr.) for
the fastest novice time ( 1:04:17-short course). Many of these racers had
just returned from the USCA Flatwater Nationals in Warren,
PA where they had placed very well. NECKRA( New
England Canoe and Kayak Racing Assoc.) sponsors forty-six races from
March to November of which the Sunset is one of eighteen in the Flatwater
Point Series. See you next year for the 25th !!
